What is the Dual Year

What is the Dual Year

What is the Dual Year?

In 2026, on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of our diplomatic relations, the Spain–India Dual Year will be celebrated. It is a bilateral initiative through which both countries coordinate a joint programme of cultural, economic, educational and institutional activities to strengthen their strategic relationship.

Pillars of the Dual Year: Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence

The choice of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence as the pillars of the Spain–India Dual Year reflects priorities widely recognised on the international agenda. Culture is a cornerstone of contemporary diplomacy and mutual understanding between societies. Tourism is one of the main drivers of economic and social connection between countries, particularly in its cultural and high value-added dimension. Artificial Intelligence, for its part, has emerged as a strategic field for growth and global governance. The convergence of these three areas places the Spain–India Dual Year in line with the major cultural, economic and technological transformations of the 21st century.

Who is participating?

Public and private stakeholders from both countries are taking part, including:

▪️ Governments and ministries (foreign affairs, culture, economy, education, science).
▪️ Embassies and public diplomacy bodies.
▪️ Council Foundations and institutional entities.
▪️ Companies and business associations.
▪️ Universities, research centres and think tanks.
▪️ Cultural and creative institutions.
▪️ Civil society and media, depending on the focus of the programme.

What activities will be held?

The Dual Year will include a broad and diverse programme, featuring:

▪️ Economic and business forums and sector-specific meetings.
▪️ Cultural events (exhibitions, series, festivals, performing arts).
▪️ Academic and educational activities (seminars, exchanges, chairs).
▪️ Leadership programmes and high-level visits.
▪️ Scientific, technological and innovation diplomacy initiatives.
▪️ Institutional and commemorative initiatives that enhance bilateral visibility.

Overall, the Dual Year acts as an accelerator of the bilateral relationship, organising and amplifying existing initiatives and generating new opportunities for cooperation during this key year.
