Comprising 750,000 photovoltaic modules, it generates enough clean energy to supply 840,000 homes
Our sponsor Acciona has announced the commissioning of its Juna solar plant in India. This 412 MWp photovoltaic project has 750,000 photovoltaic modules and is located in the state of Rajasthan, one of the places with the highest solar radiation in India.
This is Acciona Energía's largest project in India, where it already has four wind farms in operation, reinforcing the company's commitment to growth and geographical diversification. The project is also part of Acciona Energía's Social Impact Management programme, designed to support education, welfare and environmental care programmes in the communities where it operates.
The Juna solar plant is capable of generating around 800 GWh of clean energy per year, enough to supply 840,000 homes and avoid the emission of 724,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. Seventy per cent of the plant's production will be supplied to Manikaran Power Limited, one of India's largest energy traders, through a 15-year PPA. The remaining 30% will be sold on the market.
According to Acciona Energía, India is the world's fourth largest energy market in terms of installed capacity. It is making remarkable progress in the renewable energy sector and has set itself the target of achieving 500GW of installed capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030, making it one of the countries with the best growth prospects in the sector.
The Asian country has already reached 49% of its total installed capacity from non-fossil sources. India's solar capacity has increased almost 40-fold, from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 110.9 GW in 2025.
