This meeting allows progress on a common agenda, addressing key issues for the present and future of universities in both countries
The Indian Ministry of Education organized a Higher Education Conference in New Delhi, attended by representatives from numerous Spanish universities, as well as the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). The objective of the meeting was to consolidate and expand structural cooperation between the university systems of both countries.
The president of CRUE and rector of Universitat Jaume I, Eva Alcón, emphasized the academic and scientific dimension of the bilateral relationship and highlighted that the meeting had allowed them to "advance a common agenda, addressing key issues for the present and future of our universities." Within the framework of the Spain-India Dual Year, with culture as one of its main pillars, Eva Alcón stated that "India is a strategic partner for the Spanish university system, not only because of the size and diversity of its higher education system, but also because of its growing leadership in science, technology, innovation, and talent development."
The Conference agenda was structured around roundtables dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence on teaching and the design of new degree programs; to the promotion of joint research projects in multiple areas with a strong technological component; to the mobility of faculty, students, and researchers between both countries; to science and knowledge transfer and its connection with entrepreneurship; to the Ibero-American Knowledge Space and cooperation with Latin American universities; and to lifelong learning and the challenges of unemployment.
The CRUE delegation, headed by Eva Alcón, also included our patron, Antonio Largo, Rector of the University of Valladolid. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of this encounter for the University of Valladolid, given its long history of relations with India. “From its presence on the Board of Trustees of the House of India to the endowed chairs developed in collaboration with the ICCR of the Indian Government, the University has demonstrated a continuous commitment to strengthening academic and cultural ties between Spain and India,” he noted.
Other members of the Spanish delegation included Ricardo Mairal, president of Crue-Internationalization and Cooperation and rector of UNED; Joan Guàrdia, president of Crue-Faculty and rector of the University of Barcelona; Concepción López, delegate of the Presidency for Equality Policies and rector of the University of Cantabria; José Capilla, president of Crue-Digitalization and rector of the Polytechnic University of Valencia; Francisco Oliva, member of the Governing Board and rector of Pablo de Olavide University; Antonio López, president of Crue-General Secretariats and rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela; José Rodríguez, rector of the University of Huelva; Juan Romo, rector of Alfonso X el Sabio University; and Juli Minoves, rector of the University of Andorra.
