The Prime Minister is making his second trip to the Asian country as part of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Spain.
India "is already one of the main players in the global order, and Spain wants to work with India as a partner and friend." With these words, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez reaffirmed Spain's commitment to deepening its relationship with the Asian country. The Prime Minister traveled to India accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, Óscar López, as well as representatives of technology startups, with the aim of promoting cooperation in innovation.
The Prime Minister made these statements in New Delhi, during his second official visit to India, coinciding with the Spain-India Dual Year and to participate in the Summit on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence. On his first day, Pedro Sánchez met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to whom he conveyed his desire to revitalize the political relationship at the highest level. Both leaders shared the need to continue making progress towards human-centered Artificial Intelligence. AI is one of the three central themes of the Spain-India Dual Year celebrations and the Summit on the Impact of AI, which was attended by numerous heads of state and government from around the world.
Later, Pedro Sánchez met with Indian investors from strategic sectors such as biotechnology, renewable energy, and logistics, highlighting Spain's appeal as an investment destination: a partner offering stability, talent, and innovation, as well as a strategic position to connect Europe with other markets. The Prime Minister also presented tourism as a priority sector, noting that the number of Indian tourists visiting Spain has quadrupled in the last 15 years.
In the cultural sphere, to mark the Spain-India Dual Year being celebrated in 2026, the Prime Minister inaugurated a mural in a housing complex. The mural is the result of a collaboration between the Spanish muralist, SUSO33, recently awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, and two Indian artists, symbolizing the creative dialogue between the two societies.
He also presented, alongside the Indian Minister of Culture, the feature film Mudras, the first Spanish-Indian film co-production, marking a milestone in audiovisual cooperation between the two countries. "Both countries have strong audiovisual industries, and we are confident that this is just the beginning of many more projects together. The potential is enormous," he affirmed.
