The first Spain-India Dialogue organised by the SIOb in the framework of its 2023 Programme on “The EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and the Global Gateway Initiative: Opportunities for the Indo-Spanish Partnership” was held in Madrid on March 21st, 2023, with the collaboration of Fundación Ramón Areces and Casa Asia.
The I Spain-India Dialogue was addressed by Mr. Richard Tibbels, Special Envoy for the Indo-Pacific at the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Mr. David Ringrose, Head of Division, Connectivity & Digital Transition at the EEAS. Mr. Tibbels delivered a keynote speech on “The EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific: Identifying key priorities, target sectors and main pathways for the Indo-Spanish Cooperation” and Mr. Ringrose on “The Global Gateway and the Indo-Pacific: An opportunity for expanding the Indo-Spanish collaboration”. A working meeting with representatives from Spanish think tanks and experts on Asia was held in the margins of the Dialogue. This introductory document presents the relevant elements surrounding the relationship between India and the EU, the key features of the EU Strategy and those guidelines from the Member States for the region, the scope of Global Gateway and the main pathways offered for the Indo-Spanish partnership.
