Audiovisual collaboration between the two countries is being strengthened in preparation for the upcoming Spain-India Dual Year 2026
A delegation from the Spain Film Commission, headed by its president, Juan Manuel Guimeráns, participated last week in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI Goa 2025) and Waves Film Bazaar. This participation served to strengthen institutional and audiovisual cooperation between Spain and India.
At IFFI, Juan Manuel Guimeráns presented the festival director, Shekhar Kapur, with a letter signed by the director general of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), Ignasi Camós. The letter officially expresses Spain's interest in becoming the festival's "Focus Country" in 2026. This milestone would take place within the context of the 2026 Spain-India Dual Year.
Furthermore, at the Waves Film Bazaar, held as part of the IFFI festival, the delegation met to work on the joint development of a Spain-India 2026 action plan. This plan will include new audiovisual co-productions, content exchange and participation in key markets, academic and professional exchange programs, and cooperation between festivals and events in both countries.
The Spain Film Commission has also initiated new outreach to the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, recognized for its growing commitment to the audiovisual industry and tourism. As the first milestone of this alliance, Madhya Pradesh and the Indian audiovisual sector will have a prominent presence at FITUR Screen 2027.
Prior to their participation in the festival, the delegation met in Mumbai with the Producers Guild of India, where they renewed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Spain Film Commission, Casa de la India—represented by its director, Guillermo Rodríguez—and the Producers Guild, which brings together producers of film, television, and digital content. Simultaneously, the Andalusia Film Commission, represented by its director, Piluca Querol, developed its own agenda aimed at strengthening institutional relations and promoting the Andalusian region to the Indian film industry.
The Spain Film Commission emphasizes that the Spain-India Dual Year will be a key opportunity to boost the audiovisual industry between the two countries.
