The public company and the Chamber of Commerce are studying with Cantabrian companies the advantages of a market of 1.5 billion consumers and the potential of the new trade agreement
SODERCAN and the Cantabria Chamber of Commerce brought the business opportunities associated with the future trade agreement between the European Union and India closer to the regional business community at a conference held as part of their support for the internationalization of Cantabrian companies.
The meeting provided an opportunity to present the prospects offered by the Indian market for Cantabrian companies, within the context of growing trade relations between the two economies. Currently, 41 Cantabrian companies export to India, while Cantabria ranks fourth among Spanish autonomous communities in terms of Indian investment stock.
During the conference, the opportunities that the future EU-India agreement may generate were analyzed, especially for companies seeking to expand their international presence and access new markets. The initiative aims to provide Cantabrian businesses with information to identify business opportunities and strengthen their internationalization strategy.
Among the highlights of the agreement between the European Union and India is the progressive opening of sectors of particular interest to the Spanish and European economies. In the industrial sector, the agreement includes tariff reductions and improved access to the Indian market for chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, capital goods, and automotive components—sectors where European companies can significantly enhance their competitiveness. It also incorporates important advances for trade in services, facilitating access to areas such as telecommunications, financial services, insurance, and certain professional services.
The actions of SODERCAN and the Chamber of Commerce are thus aligned with the objective of promoting the internationalization of Cantabrian companies, taking advantage of the new trade opportunities that may arise from the deepening of economic relations between the European Union and India. Currently, 41 Cantabrian companies export to India, and nearly half of them do so regularly. Cantabrian exports to India are primarily based on the region's industrial strength, especially in sectors related to home furnishings, raw materials, the chemical industry, and the ceramics industry. Imports from India are concentrated in foundry and steel products, chemical products, and machinery for rubber and plastics.
