With this order extension, IndiGo is preparing to enter the international long-haul market
IndiGo, India's largest airline, has formalized a new purchase commitment for 30 Airbus A350 aircraft. This brings its total orders for this aircraft model to 60. With this transaction, IndiGo marks a strategic shift and prepares for its entry into the long-haul international market, leveraging the A350's extensive range and efficiency.
For Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, this contract consolidates "our commitment to expanding our international presence and offering unparalleled connectivity to our customers (...) The conversion of this memorandum of understanding into a firm order for thirty additional A350-900s demonstrates our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and our strategic alliance with Airbus (...) These aircraft, which will join our fleet in the coming years, will play a pivotal role in IndiGo expanding its reach, connecting India to more destinations around the world, and offering our customers new international travel opportunities."
For his part, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus' Commercial Aircraft business, stated that "this milestone reinforces our strong partnership with one of the world's fastest-growing airlines, and we look forward to supporting its expansion into new long-haul markets."
According to Airbus, India is the world's fastest-growing aviation market and is currently experiencing a boom in international travel as the economy grows and household incomes rise.
Like all Airbus aircraft, the A350 can now operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims for all its aircraft to be 100% SAF-compatible by 2030.
