The Global Observatory of Spanish (OGE), an analysis and forecasting center managed by our patron, the Cervantes Institute, recently held a plenary session at the headquarters of the Government of La Rioja to review its activities for 2025 and prepare for the coming year.
The plenary session was chaired by the Secretary of State for Ibero-America, the Caribbean, and Spanish in the World, Susana Sumelzo, and included the participation of the President of the Government of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán; the Director of the Observatory, Francisco Moreno; and representatives from the State Secretariats for Digitalization and Intelligence, Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Local Policy, and Universities, as well as the Foundation for the Transformation of La Rioja.
During the plenary session, it was noted that, throughout this year, the OGE has achieved institutional consolidation, in addition to strengthening its role in promoting Spanish in global forums. A report on activities was also presented, highlighting some of the significant achievements during this period, such as the preparation of the central report for the 2025 Yearbook of the Cervantes Institute.
Progress was also made on the various projects the Observatory will undertake during 2026, in which India will play a major role. Among the different reports to be produced, one will focus on the teaching of Spanish in universities in China and India. Furthermore, the Observatory will participate in activities related to the Spain-India Dual Year.
