They will support the construction of the Asian country's first zinc tailings plant, which will be located in Rajasthan
Sedgman and Leighton Asia, both part of the CIMIC Group—a subsidiary of the Spanish company ACS—have been awarded contracts by Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), the world's largest integrated zinc producer and a leading silver producer. The contracts will support the construction of India's first zinc tailings recycling plant, located at the Rampura Agucha Mines in Rajasthan.
The contracts stipulate that Sedgman will provide engineering services and offshore equipment procurement. Leighton Asia, under a separate contract, will manage the project's construction and onshore equipment procurement. These contracts are expected to generate approximately €237 million in revenue.
ACS Group CEO and CIMIC Executive Chairman Juan Santamaría stated, “This project highlights Sedgman’s leadership in mineral processing and Leighton Asia’s proven ability to provide infrastructure. It reflects our Group’s strategic commitment to supporting the global energy transition through the development of critical minerals. Modern tailings reprocessing opens new opportunities to recover essential minerals that drive clean energy technologies and digital infrastructure.”
Arun Misra, CEO of HZL, noted, “By establishing India’s first globally scaled zinc tailings recycling plant, HZL is creating a model for re-engineering legacy resources for future supply, thereby strengthening the country’s critical mineral security.”
