It will bring together around a hundred films, which will respond to the interest of both an audience familiar with Asian cinema and new fans
The Asian Film Festival Barcelona (AFFBCN) is the Asian arthouse film festival that our patron, Casa Asia, has held in Barcelona for the past thirteen years. This year, the event will take place from October 29th to November 9th and will feature a program of more than one hundred titles from more than 20 countries in Asia and the Pacific.
The AFFBCN will have its main venue at the Cinemes Girona, along with CaixaForum, the Escola de Cinema de Barcelona, the Institut Français, the Fundació Institut Confuci de Barcelona, and Zumzeig. Additionally, the Filmin platform and the Betevé channel will host the online sessions.
The festival, which maintains its format grouped into six competition sections (Official, Official Panorama, Discoveries, NETPAC, Special Section, and New Perspectives), has the support of the Catalan Institute of Cultural Enterprises of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona Institute of Culture of the City Council, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Confucius Institute of Barcelona, the Australian Embassy, and the Japan Foundation, among other institutions.
Menene Gras Balaguer, festival director, points out that this edition represents "the consolidation of a festival that gives visibility to the sovereignty of the countries involved in the program and seeks to showcase the most recent productions. The criteria used in its selection are related to the intention of facilitating information and knowledge about cultures of difference, as well as their influence in a global market that has not managed to erase its identity, despite incessant diasporas and regional conflicts."
