The Indian Leaders closed the agenda with a visit to Museo Picasso, which houses the most complete collection from the artist’s youth and years of training, with a total of 4,250 works. The visit was organised by Barcelona City Council and the delegation was accompanied by Miquel Mateu, Head of the Council’s Asia-Pacific Programme. The Leaders had the chance to learn about the work and experimentation processes of one of Spain’s best-known, most universal artists.
The Museum opened to the public on March 9, 1963 and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. The idea for a museum on Picasso in Barcelona came from the artist’s close friend and personal secretary, Jaume Sabartés, who developed the project together with other personalities in the late 50s. The museum also has a wealth of documental and photographic archives thanks to donations and acquisitions, which constitutes an all-important source of information on the artist.
