The visit is backed by the Spain India Council Foundation, among other organisations
Kulmeet Makkar, CEO of Film & Television Producers Guild of India, will visit Spain from July 30 to August 5. This trip seeks to boost relations between the Indian and Spanish film industries within the framework of the Spain-India coproduction agreement signed in October 2012. According to Makkar, the aim is to "explore options for coproduction opportunities with Spanish producers and bring more films to Spain."
During his visit to Spain, organised by the Spain Film Commission together with ICAA, ICEX, FAPAE and SCIF, Makkar will travel to Madrid, Andalusia and Galicia. The agenda includes institutional meetings, professional events with production companies and audiovisual professionals and visits to the main filming locations in the regions visited.
India’s film industry is the largest in the world in terms of the number of feature films and short films made per year. The Film & Television Producers Guild of India produces over 700 out of the 1,600 films made each year in India. Makkar is also President & CEO of prominent production company Shreya Entertainment.
Makkar’s visit is intended as a follow-up visit after Mukesh Bhatt, former CEO of the Film & Television Producers Guild of India, came to Spain in May. The rise in the number of Indian tourists visiting Spain after the success of the road trip movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, filmed in the country, demonstrated the impact cinema can have on tourism.
