New representatives and patrons were welcomed and the activities carried out and planned for 2017 were evaluated
The Spain India Council Foundation Board Meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Following the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Spain in May and the resulting enhanced bilateral relations, Fernando Alonso Navaridas, General Deputy Director for South and East Asia at the Ministry, summed up the current state of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which was of great interest for all patrons.
The participation of SICF's Secretary General, Alonso Dezcallar, in a private meeting between a carefully selected group of Spanish entrepreneurs and Indian PM Narendra Modi was also highlighted. This once again emphasised the all-important role played by the Council Foundation and its patron organisations as a bridge for bilateral relations.
The meeting with India's Prime Minister was one of the activities organised by SICF for the first half of 2016, in addition to a breakfast meeting with the Secretary (West)of India's Ministry of External Relations, Ruchi Ghanashyam. A meeting with India's new Ambassador to Spain, Bala Venkatesh Varma, was also arranged, to brief him on the objectives and goals of the Foundation and the companies and organisations that form part of it. The patrons received a full rundown of all these activities and their outcomes.
The meeting with the patrons was also an opportunity to bring themup to dateon the preparations for the 2nd Spain-India Forum, which is set to take place in November in Madrid and will focus on renewable, clean and efficient energies.
The Board Meeting also covered the inclusion of potential patrons and new representatives, and the members welcomed Navantia's CEO, Esteban García Vilasánchez, as well as the Head of International Economic Relations at the Ministry of External Relations and Cooperation, Cristina Serrano Leal. In turn, they also wished the best of luck totheoutgoing representative of the Alliance4Universities, Amaya Mendikoetxea, whom SICF thanked for her dedication and work during her time as a board member.
